About This Tool

This interactive self-assessment tool is designed to help you understand your tendencies toward Constructive Deviant Workplace Behavior (CDWB) - a concept that describes positive rule-breaking in organizational settings. Unlike traditional workplace deviance which is harmful, constructive deviance involves challenging organizational norms with the intention of improving organizational outcomes.

The assessment evaluates your CDWB propensity across five research-based dimensions:

  1. Risk Tolerance: Your comfort with uncertainty and potential consequences of challenging established practices

  2. Felt Responsibility: Your sense of personal obligation for organizational outcomes beyond your formal role

  3. Proactive Personality: Your tendency to take initiative to improve conditions rather than passively adapt

  4. Organizational Commitment: Your emotional attachment to your organization and its mission

  5. Constructive Deviance Tendency: Your inclination to violate norms when you believe it will benefit the organization

 

How to Use This Assessment

Instructions:

  1. Getting Started: Simply begin by reading the introduction and clicking the "Next" button to proceed to the first question.

  2. Responding to Questions: For each question, select the response option that most accurately reflects how you typically think, feel, or behave in your workplace. Choose from options ranging from "Strongly Disagree" to "Strongly Agree."

  3. Navigating the Assessment:

    • Use the "Next" button to proceed after answering each question

    • Use the "Previous" button if you wish to review or change a previous answer

    • The progress bar at the top shows how far you've advanced through the assessment

  4. Completing the Assessment: After answering all 25 questions, click the "Submit" button to view your results.

  5. Reviewing Your Results: Your results page will include:

    • An overall CDWB propensity score

    • Individual scores for each of the five dimensions

    • Personalized interpretations based on your specific score profile

    • Practical suggestions tailored to your results for each dimension

  6. Taking Action: Review the suggestions provided and consider how you might apply them in your workplace to leverage your strengths and develop areas for growth.

  7. Reassessment: You can retake the assessment at any time by clicking the "Take Assessment Again" button at the bottom of the results page. This can be useful after implementing some of the suggestions to see how your profile may have changed.

 

Tips for Accurate Results

  • Be honest in your responses – there are no "right" or "wrong" answers

  • Answer based on how you actually behave, not how you think you should behave

  • Consider your typical behavior over time, rather than focusing on specific incidents

  • Complete the assessment in a quiet, distraction-free environment for the most accurate results

  • Answer all questions from the perspective of your current workplace if you're employed, or your most recent position if you're between jobs
