Intersectional Job Satisfaction Model: Interactive Tool Overview


This interactive model visualizes the complex factors that influence job satisfaction across different demographic groups. The model is built from regression analyses of over 560 employees from diverse backgrounds, education levels, and career stages.

 

What This Tool Shows

 

The diagram presents a statistical model of job satisfaction that includes:

  • Predictors (red boxes): Key workplace factors like intrinsic rewards, extrinsic rewards, work relationships, and work-life balance

  • Mediators (blue boxes): Psychological mechanisms like sense of purpose, belonging, leadership efficacy, and empowerment

  • Moderators (purple boxes): Demographic factors such as gender, race, education, and generation that shape how workplace experiences affect satisfaction

  • Contextual Factors (orange boxes): Organizational and environmental conditions like geography, industry, and company size

  • Outcome (green box): Overall job satisfaction

 

How to Use This Tool

 

  1. Explore the Diagram: Hover over any box to see the specific variables it contains and their statistical significance

  2. Customize the Model: Use the dropdown menus to filter by:

    • Demographic groups (gender, race)

    • Additional moderators (generation, education level)

    • Specific pathways of interest

  3. Analyze the Model: Click the "Analyze Model" button to highlight key pathways and update the recommendations based on your selections

  4. View Personalized Recommendations: See evidence-based recommendations tailored to your selected variables, with relevance meters showing how strongly each recommendation matches your criteria

  5. Interact with Components: Drag boxes to rearrange the model layout for better visualization of specific relationships

  6. Reset the Model: Click the "Reset Model" button to return to the default view

 

The model reveals how factors influencing job satisfaction differ across demographic groups, showing important differences by gender, race, generation, and their intersections. The statistical significance of each relationship is indicated using stars (*** = p<.001, ** = p<.01, * = p<.05).

 

This tool helps organizations develop targeted strategies to improve job satisfaction for specific employee populations by identifying the unique factors that matter most to different demographic groups.
